Holy Thorn with both Blossoms and Berries |
Just above the Lion's Head area is one of the Glastonbury Holy thorn trees. It is as if both birth and death, flower and fruit can happen at the same moment. The Holy Thorn truly reflects the spirit of the Samhain, the Celtic New Year.

Making the Glastonbury Holy Thorn Remedies within the gardens Every year here in the garden the flowers and buds of this special tree are infused in sunlight in a glass bowl of Chalice Well water and made into healing flower essences which are available in our shop. they are very popular and we send them out all over the world. |
There are three holy thorn trees in the garden, a small one just above the Lion's Head (pictured above), one near the Well, and a larger one between the two big yews and the Vesica Piscis pool. This famous tree is descended in legend from the original which sprouted miraculously from Joseph of Arimathea's staff when he came to Glastonbury. It is very special because it flowers at the two main times in the Christian calendar, Christmas and Easter
